This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, James Harold Small who was born in Texas on December 29, 1934 and passed away on January 09, 2006 at the age of 71. We will remember him forever.
Bro. Small was born Dec. 29, 1934, in Fairfield and died Jan. 9, 2006, in Tyler. He surrendered to preach in May of 1952, pastoring several churches in Texas. He attended Jacksonville College, Stephen F. Austin State University, Sam Houston State University, and BMA Theological Seminary. He was pastor of Mount Selman Baptist Church, Bullard, TX for 37 years.
He taught in public school and Jacksonville College, where he was head of the English Department for 34 years, retiring in 2000. Harold has written Sunday school lessons for the Baptist Progress and Adult Advancer Sunday school literature. He was clerk/treasurer for Cherokee Baptist Association and served as president of the BMA of Texas. He was active in both state and national denominational work. He was on the committee that worked on and presented to the Texas state meeting last November the rewriting and updating of the constitution for the BMA of Texas. He was currently president of the Alumni Association of Jacksonville College.
He was a member of the Jacksonville Lions Club, recipient of the Silver Beaver Award for outstanding service in the East Texas area and was associated with the Boy Scouts of America for more than 13 years.
Survivors include his wife, Anita Small of Jacksonville; sons and daughters-in-law, Harold Dwayne and Fran Small of Cleveland, John Keith and Rhonda Small of Longview; brother and wife, John Gordon and Mary Small of Fairfield; aunt, Grace Sanders of Fairfield; grandchildren, John Eric Small, Janeth Britt, Jordan Small, Lauren Small, Jessika Small and Shawn Small; and several nieces and nephews.
